What is sustainable packaging?

At Packaged Sustainably, we know sustainability can be subjective, so we created guidelines to help us determine what products to feature.

Eliminate Plastic Whenever Possible

Sustainable packaging options continue to improve over time. Zero plastic is not realistic yet, but plastic reduction is.

No Greenwashing

It is never okay to try to mislead the consumer. Brands should be honest with their sustainable packaging and not overstate the impact being made.

Improving the Status Quo

No perfect sustainable packaging exists today. But the brand should make a logical case that they are packaging their product in a way that is less harmful than methods traditionally used.

Michael Markarian

CEO

Michael Markarian is the CEO of Contempo Specialty Packaging and the creator of Packaged Sustainably. He built Packaged Sustainably to support his clients at Contempo who are moving to sustainable packaging but need a place to tell their story and/or want to gain new conscious consumers who shop based on their values.
